Ingredients

  • Pastry for 2 crusts
  • 8 cups of sliced apples, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • ¾ cup of white sugar
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon of milk

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.

2. Mix the apples with the lemon juice in a bowl.

3. In a separate bowl mix the white sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg, then add to apples.

4. Make sure the apples are fully coated with mixture.

5. Fill pastry lined 9 inch pie pan with the apple mixture.

6. Dot with butter.

7. Place the second crust on top of filling.

8. Cut slits on top of the crust to vent and seal edges, set the pie aside.

9. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolk and milk and then brush the mixture over the top of the crust.

10. Bake the pie for 15 minutes at 425 degrees F.

11. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
