SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) or PPGP (Pregnancy-related Pelvic Girdle Pain) is severe pelvic pain which results from excess levels of relaxin softening your pelvic ligaments in preparation for labour and childbirth.

The symptoms of SPD include:

  • Back pain, pelvic girdle pain and/or pain pain especially when walking, going upstairs, standing on one leg, opening your legs and turning over in bed.
  • A grinding or clicking feeling in your pelvic area.
  • Pain on the inside of your thighs and/or between your legs.
  • Increased pain during the night, which gives you trouble sleeping.
