Pregnancy acne is an unpleasant pregnancy symptom, but there are certain steps you can take to treat and prevent pregnancy acne. Many are the same tips you heard while you were growing up, because as it turns out there’s no difference between pregnancy acne and teenage acne, do you feel younger?

  • Wash your face gently with a mild cleanser. Do not use wash cloths or cleansers with abrasive beads.
  • Do not over wash your face. Washing your face twice a day is more than enough.
  • Pat your face dry. Don’t wipe or rub it, this will only make your pregnancy acne worse.
  • Don’t interfere with your pimples. Touching and popping them do not help and can often cause scarring.
  • Wear water-based make-up instead of oil based make-up. Remember to wash it off at the end of each day.
  • Get your daily dose of vitamin A, which is good for your skin.
  • Maintain a healthy pregnancy diet. Fruits and vegetables are better for your skin and health than salty and sugary treats.
  • Before taking an over-the-counter acne medication, check with your doctor that it is safe during pregnancy, not all of them are.
  • Speak to your doctor about seeing a dermatologist if your pregnancy acne is severe.
