26 weeks pregnant: your baby

week 26

Your baby at 26 weeks of pregnancy

In the twenty-sixth week of pregnancy your baby can weigh up to a whopping 2 lbs./910 g. and is probably 9 in./22 cm. in length.

At this point in your pregnancy your baby will have distinct waking and sleeping cycles, all five senses will be fully developed and he will have probably opened his eyes, which means he will react to bright light and/or loud noises.

You may have noticed that your baby has a small heart arrhythmia, that is his heart skips a beat every once in awhile. This is nothing to be alarmed about as it is quite normal and usually disappears by birth. However, if it is still present just before labour it’s a good idea to have a pediatrician present at birth to ensure your baby receives the right attention.
