Managing your mood swings

Pregnant woman with a mood swing

Do you feel like this during your pregnancy?

Unfortunately, as you probably know already, you can’t avoid your mood swings. However, there are certain steps you can take to manage your mood swings, make the bad phases better and to make it easier for those around you who have to deal with your mood swings for the next 40 weeks of your pregnancy.

  • Avoid stressful situations and trying to do too much. Take care of yourself and take your time with everything you do. You are pregnant, you don’t have to be superwoman.
  • Spend time with your partner. Do this when you’re feeling good and reassure him that when you’re yelling at him, 99% of the time it’s because of your pregnancy hormones. It will make things a little more bearable for him.
  • Have fun and do things that make you feel good. This includes taking a nap, having a girls’ day or just watching a funny movie. This works especially well when you’re feeling stressed out or sad and need a break.
  • Talk to your friends, family and partner about your emotions. Sometimes just saying how you feel out loud can make the world of difference.
  • Eat well and do some exercise. You’ll feel good and your happy hormone levels will increase.
  • Relax. Try doing yoga, a meditation class or any similar relaxation method, because your mind can be  a powerful tool.
  • Sleep A LOT. You might as well as get as much of it as possible now before your baby arrives.
  • Get a massage. Whether you go to a spa or get your partner to rub your feet for 15 minutes, a massage will make you feel great!

So remember you can’t prevent your mood swings, but there is a lot you can do to make it a bit easier for you and those around you.
