Multiple Births

Multiple births, which include twins, triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets…(you get the idea), are becoming increasingly more common in pregnancies across the world. Several causes have been identified for this increase in multiple births, but most medical professionals agree that the main reason is that many women are waiting until their 30s to have babies. Women in their 30s are more likely to use fertility treatments, such as IVF, and have higher levels of gonadotropins, both of which greatly increase the likelihood of fraternal twins as well as other multiples.

Did you know? Women over the age of 30 account for 70% of all multiple pregnancies!

Multiple births are different to other pregnancies and can be a little more complicated, but don’t worry mum if you’re carrying more than one baby your pregnancy can still be just as enjoyable as everyone else’s. And don’t forget every year plenty of healthy multiples are born, the best thing you can do for you and your babies is relax and communicate frequently with your doctor.
