Roasted turkey recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 lb) Whole turkey with neck and giblets removed
  • 2 cups of salt
  • ½ cup of melted butter
  • 2 large peeled and chopped onions
  • 4 peeled and chopped carrots
  • 4 stalks of chopped celery
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup of dry white wine (expectant mothers can skip this)

Directions

1. Rub the turkey inside and out with salt.

2. Place the turkey in a large stock pot and cover it with cold water.

3. Place the turkey in the refrigerator and let it soak in the salt and water for 12 hours or overnight.

4. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and rinse the turkey.  Discard the salt mixture it defrosted in.

5. Brush the turkey with 1/2 of the melted butter and place it breast side down on a roasting rack in a shallow roasting pan.

6. Stuff the cavity of the turkey with 1 onion, 1/2 of the carrots, 1/2 of the celery, 1 sprig of thyme and the bay leaf. Scatter the rest of the vegetables around the bottom of the pan and cover with white wine.

7. Roast the turkey uncovered for 3 1/2 to 4 hours in the preheated oven until the internal temperature is 180 degrees F (this intrnal temperature is very important for your pregnancy health).

8. Turn the turkey breast side up 2/3 of the way through the roasting time and brush it with the rest of the butter.

9. Let the turkey stand for 30 minutes before carving.
