Sweet potato and apple casserole

Ingredients
- 4 medium sized sweet potatoes
- 4 to 5 red apples
-  ½ cup of brown sugar
- Â 1 cup of white sugar
- 1 stick of butter (1 cup)
-  ½ teaspoon of salt
- Â 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Partially boil potatoes until slightly tender.
3. Cut the potatoes into round circles about 1/3 to ½ inch thick.
4. Let the potatoes cool and peel the apples.
5. Cut the apples into ½ inch slices and place into a saucepan with a ½ cup of water.
6. Bring the apples to a boil and then drain the apples.
7. Butter the casserole dish and alternately layer the potatoes and apples.
8. Blend the brown sugar, white sugar, butter, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg into one mixture.
9. Cook the mixture until it begins to thicken and turn into a syrup.
10. Pour this sugar syrup mixture over the potatoes and apples.
11. Bake for 30 minutes or until top is a golden brown.
If desired you can sprinkle pecan halves over the top.
Be warned this is a very sweet dish.
