3 weeks pregnant: your baby

Your baby as a cluster of cells

In the third week of pregnancy your baby becomes an embryo and is about the size of a pinhead. This week he will be making his journey down your fallopian tube and into your uterus. As he does this his cells will begin to divide. This is when you and your partner’s chromosomes will intermingle to form the DNA of your baby, which means that this week the colour of your baby’s eyes and hair, his height and so many more of his other adorable features are being determined!

This ball of cells which now makes up your baby is scientifically known as a zygote. Once in the uterus, your baby will “bounce” around for a few days and will then finally implant itself in your uteral lining. If your baby implants itself earlier in your fallopian tube you will experience what is known as an ectopic or “out of place” pregnancy.

Did you know…your baby’s sex was determined by your partner’s sperm, you had absolutely no say in it. Just another reason you should get to choose the name?

What’s happening to your body this week?
