Avoiding nosebleeds
No one enjoys getting a nosebleed. They are inconvenient, unpleasant and just plain annoying. However, during your pregnancy you do run a risk of experiencing more nosebleeds than normal, because as a result of your body’s hormonal changes nosebleeds are a common pregnancy symptom .
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to avoid nosebleeds during your pregnancy. These steps include:
- Drinking extra fluids. You may end up visiting the bathroom more often, but that pregnancy symptom can be a little more convenient than a nosebleed.
- Blowing your nose gently. Fast and aggressive blowing only aggravates your already sensitive blood vessels.
- Avoiding dry air and smoke. Both of these environmental factors dry out your nasal passages making nosebleeds more likely. Don’t overheat your home, limit air conditioning exposure and use a humidifier to keep the air in your house fresh.
- Using water-based creams or saline nasal sprays. These keep your nose from getting dry, but be careful as overusing these products can increase your chances of experiencing a nosebleed.
