Coffee filter Christmas trees

Get creative this Christmas!

Materials:

  • Foam cone
  • At least 10 coffee filters
  • Stick pins (small flat or round silver head)
  • Pins with colourful round heads
  • Buttons, beads, sequins and/or glitter
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Round flat wooden base (available at craft stores)
  • A tree topper of your choice (flower, star, mini angel…)

Method:

1. Cut the centre out of each coffee filter. A good trick for this is to fold the coffee filter in half.

2. Carefully use the stick pins to secure the coffee filter frills around the foam cone layer by layer. Cut each coffee filter frill to the size you need, each layer will need to be a little bit smaller. You can use a glue gun instead of pins, but be careful!

3. At the top of the cone use a piece of one of the coffee filter centres to seal it off.

4. Time to decorate! Use the pins with colourful heads as Christmas baubles, but don’t push them all the way in or your tree will lose it’s shape. Then using your glue gun, stick on any buttons, beads, sequins and/or glitter you wish to decorate your tree.

5. Top your tree with your desired tree topper, which you will stick on with your glue gun.
