Baby’s hospital bag

Your baby needs a hospital bag too, because even though he enters the hospital or birthing centre with everything he needs in mum’s womb, he will need some important items for after birth.

Are you unsure about what exactly you should pack in your hospital bag? We know it’s not an easy task, but it has to be done whether you’re giving birth in a hospital or at home. Remember, you have to prepare for everything when you are expecting. So we thought we’d put together  a list of the essentials for your baby after birth. Here it goes…

  • Clothes. Pick your favourite baby grows for those first pictures and of course those which are weather appropriate.

Make sure you have the carseat ready and waiting from week 36

  • A baby blanket.
  • Nappies. You are going to need A LOT as newborns can use up to 12 each day!
  • Muslin squares
  • Baby socks and booties. Your baby needs to be as warm as possible.
  • A hat.
  • A jacket if you’re having a winter baby.
  • Vaseline, baby wipes and baby powder for diaper changes.
  • Bottles if you won’t be breastfeeding.

The final item on the list won’t fit in your hospital bag, but it is vital that you don’t forget it…the car seat. It is best to have it prepped and ready to go by week 36 of pregnancy, just like your hospital bag. Trying to fit all of the above into one hospital bag, along with all of you and your partner’s stuff, may seem like an impossible task, but don’t worry we’ve written an article with tips on how to pack lightly that will hopefully make it easier for you.
